Australian Disc Golf Championships 2007 – Results

If there is one thing that was proven at the 2007 Australian Disc Golf Championships is that the Swedish know their disc golf, but the Aussies are never too far behind.  The event that capped off the inaugural year of the Australian Disc Golf Tour was very well attended, leaving little doubt of the growth of disc golf in Australia over the last few years has been larger than what most of us expected.  It was a lot of work for many of us, getting players packages together, inputting scores and making sure overall everyone was having a good time, but needless to say we were very pleased with the turnout and the smoothness of how everything ran.

AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

What a joy it is to have a permanent course! This the second weekend with the targets in the ground, we simply couldn’t resist running an event despite having no tees, Father’s Day and very short notice. Martin Ryland-Adair stole the show; starting with a course record 48 (same as Luke Williams) and then following up with the first ever ace on this course: hole 7, from the short tee (174g dyed Champion Teebird). His game crumbled towards the end loosing 7 strokes over the last 7 holes to Kurt Karlsson who set a new course record (45) but Martin was still quite satisfied, noting that the ace was not only the first at the course, it was also the first ever for him. Congratulations!

MADD MACQ’S 024

Just because the Newington course wasn’t ready for play yet, we didn’t cancel – we just swapped location for another MM. The shorts were back on, the sky was blue but the fountain had been turned off. Most of the talk was about the Newington course, the October Championships and yet another layout for Macquarie. For some, it meant relaxed play, for others difficulties concentrating. After the first round, Luke and Rod went to Newington for some course work, not to be seen again. After the longest lunch ever, we played another round and then hauled the baskets back into the dark dungeons of Macq Uni Gym where they’ll stay till October (we think).
